Hasselö Row

Every year on the third Wednesday of July, the Hasselö Row takes place.

This year, it’s on July 16. Around 30 traditional wooden boats (“ökor”) are rowed from the village of Hasselö to Fiskaretorget in Västervik, where they are greeted by a large crowd. The event is a tribute to the archipelago residents of the past, who rowed from the islands to the mainland to sell their goods and buy necessities.

When the rowers return to Hasselö, a festive gathering is held at Hasselö Sand, with food and music. If you’d like to join the row, bring your wooden boat to Hasselö village and be ready by 8:00 AM on the third Wednesday in July. Dress in turn-of-the-century clothing (1800–1900), pack a picnic basket, and prepare for a wonderful day.
