Reconstruction of the Medieval P-3 Boat: Reviving Puck's Maritime Heritage.
The Municipality of Puck is undertaking the reconstruction of a medieval boat discovered at the bottom of Puck Bay during archaeological research. This vessel, known as P-3, was uncovered in the late 1970s and is considered one of the most valuable testimonies to the region’s maritime heritage. We plan for the boat reconstruction to be sail-worthy, allowing participants to learn interesting facts about traditional Baltic shipbuilding during the voyage. In the boatyard, we aim to offer workshops for visitors, where they can try their hand at the boat-building process on prepared fragments, guided by instructors
History of the P-3 Boat
The P-3 boat, dating from the mid-12th century (post-1156 AD), is believed to have been used for transporting goods or fishing. The wreck measures approximately 11 meters in length, with an estimated original length of up to 16 meters and a width of 3.5 meters. Constructed entirely of oak wood. The wreck of the P-3 boat can currently be seen at the National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk, in its branch, the Shipwreck Conservation Center in Tczew.
